Climate and Air Control Pollution Seminar

Dear Members,

On Thursday 18th November, the DCS arranged and hosted a Climate and Air Control Pollution Seminar at the Didsbury Neighbourhood Centre in Didsbury Park. It was well attended by both DCS members and local residents. Importantly, we were well served on the night with 3 great speakers at the top of their subject.

Hue Coe, Professor of Atmospheric Composition from Manchester University

Pete Abel from Friends of the Earth

Matt Kitchin and team from Stagecoach

All speakers presented their views in relation to concerns and ideas on the actions required to combat the threat to our environment, both in the short and long term, hopefully taking us to Net Carbon Zero by 2050. The Seminar culminated in an extended question and answer session with a large number of enquiring questions from the floor.

This was our first public meeting since becoming a CIO (Charitable Integrated Organisation) which was well received and laid the ground for a future follow up meeting which will interface with our next proposed topical presentation.

A big thank you to Dr Pam Venning for her invaluable organisation and the engagement of Hue and Pete, completing it all at arms length from her current work place in Birmingham. Also thanks to Didsbury Good Neighbours for the kind use of their facilities on the night.
