We organise day trips to heritage buildings and centres throughout the year. Our next trip will be in September. Open to non-members.
Previous social trips
On 8th September 2022 our day trip to Liverpool included tours of St Georges Hall, a Grade 1 listed building, and Knowsley Safari Park. St Georges Hall foundation stone was laid in 1838 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Coronation. The original concept was for a Central Hall to house concerts, which in fact became a multipurpose building with a magnificent Assembly Room, an elaborate Concert Hall, Magistrates Courts and prisoner cells, and many other impressive major rooms.
On 28th April 2022 our 39 day trippers visited the potteries. Their tour of The World of Wedgwood told the history of the family name, the well-known quality and marketing plus the high skills of its employees in hand decorating them, the use of paint containing gold, through to their dispatch on their long journeys around the world in straw filled barrels.
On 3rd May 23 our trip to Yorkshire enticed 48 members and friends across the Pennines to the White Rose County. We were rewarded with a great day out to Elsecar and Wentworth Woodhouse both owned by the Earls Fitzwilliam. Read about the day out here.
