Stop Press Link – Wednesday 22nd March 2018

An illustrated talk about the pioneering female founders of the RSPB, and the bitter battle waged against fashionable women and feathered hats. Didsbury is rightly proud of Emily Williamson – but what became of her 1889 campaign to save the birds?

Social historian Tessa Boase is author of Mrs Pankhurst’s Purple Feather: Fashion, Fury and Feminism, Women’s Fight for Change (Aurum Press, 3 May 2018).

Enjoy a glass of prosecco with the author before taking your seats. Tessa’s talk will be followed by questions and a book signing of ‘Mrs Pankhurst’s Purple Feather’ (available at special discounted price of £16, rather than £20).

There will be a talk by Dr Alison Ronan entitled “More than the Pankhursts – Women’s Suffrage in South Manchester”  This will take place on Saturday, 9th June at 6.30pm at the Old Parsonage. No booking required but there will be a retiring collection for which we ask a minimum of £3.00. Dr Ronan is kindly donating the money raised towards the Stained Glass Sundial appeal at the Old Parsonagees the proposestaurant at East Didsbury.
