DCS Minutes of the General Meeting Tuesday 22nd October 2024 at 7:30pm

at The Old Parsonage

Welcome:

Present: Mike Corlett (Chair), Mary Christie, Carol Wilkinson, Ellie Sams, Cllr John Leech, Mark Clayton, Geoff Bridson.

Apologies for Absence: Gordon Browne, Cllr Debbie Hilal, Cllr Richard Kilpatrick.

Acceptance of the Minutes for the 9th September 2024 Proposed: Carol Wilkinson                     Acceptance: Mary Christie

Matters arising from the minutes:

(1) Still no clearance/bin removal on the William Street.

This recurring problem still sees 26 bins lined up on the public pavement opposite the Fletcher Moss pub. It is noted that each now has an MCC notification that they will be removed if they remain in place. We would also remind, that it was understood that a direct letter would be put through the letter box of each resident. Councillor Leech agreed to take up this problem with the Ward Management team.

    (2) Still no action on the Cadent gas pump building graffiti (online clean-up requests have been submitted by the DCS)

The DCS have chased up the absence of a response and would request action by MCC Enforcement. We would also remind that this building is in a public park which is the responsibility of MCC Parks South. Currently some of these outsourced groups appear to operate outside of MCC including Cadent. Northern Rail also advise that problems like graffiti removal is not in their contract. How do the residents obtain some action to keep their areas clean?

      Business Agenda

      (1) Garden of Contemplation electric connection and garden status

Amey and MCC are working to deliver a solution this week (w/c 21/10/24). Amey indicated they will return to site Wed 23rd October. The service required deadline still remains for the 14th November switch on.

Ellie Sams re-raised the question whether the wall has now been declared safe. Cllr Leech agreed to raise this question again within MCC Building Control and report back.

        (2) The Barlow Moor/Wilmslow Road crossing area:

There now appears to be a new area for begging at the traffic lights. It was understood that one of the persons involved had been served with an ASBO or similar for the A34 or does it cover a wider area? Mike Corlett to raise this situation with the local PCSO Craig Boswell.

         (3) BT telecoms library box removal

Although scruffy and tired the one in a Library Heritage Area has been removed, as well as the one outside Holland and Barrett. The attendees generally had no concerns, as they were very untidy and unkempt. Other facilities probably /remain under the Universal Obligation. Discussion took place to whether this particular box could have been used for a Defibrillator location. Currently there is one available within the Emmanuel Parish Office area 365/24/7, but perhaps requires more publicity and signage. There is also a Stab/Bleed Box fixed to the outside office wall. Perhaps a visible location map could also be considered with time being important to locate, contact and receive the code number to open, especially if being reported by visitors.

        (4) Library Heritage Blue Plaque:

Currently it is very overgrown by a Mahonia bush and unseen? Are MCC Ground works responsible for the regular maintenance? The DCS would be happy to cut back the offending bush if MCC will collect the green waste for disposal? It was also agreed to raise a CRM for this issue.

         (5) Ex Wishing Well furniture and kegs

A large number of empty kegs are still on the car park area. A letter requesting their removal has been sent to the Agents requesting removal for safety as they are close to the Metro tracks. If there is no progress, can MCC request their removal? There are also a number of tables and benches left in the car park area. Can these not be made available to Didsbury community group`s such as the Library Garden and Concourse area, the Mosque, Fletcher Moss tennis court area? There is also builder`s rubble and a skip from the stripping out of Harriet and Dee shop on Warburton Street. Which has since been cleared.

        Any other business

        1. The Spann`s wall plaque is currently in production for installation at Costa Coffee. Currently this is about 6 weeks to the finished article.
        2. It was advised that we now need to prepare the artwork for a DCS plaque for the Garden of Contemplation.
